When you study a subject for 50 years, you can become one of the world's foremost experts. In recent years, medicinal mushroom extracts have exploded in popularity. Lion's mane coffees, chaga teas, turmeric reishi lattes... but are you wasting your money on junk? This episode will teach you to buy high-quality mushroom supplements.
Meet our guest
Jeff Chilton studied Ethno-mycology at the University of Washington in the sixties. He started out working on a mushroom farm in 1973. Over the last 50 years, he's co-authored the critically acclaimed 1983 book Mushroom Cultivator. In 1989 he founded Nammex — the first supplier of mushroom extracts. Jeff was the one to bring organic certification to the Chinese mushroom industry. He's is also a founding member of the World Society for Mushroom Biology and Mushroom Products and a Member of the International Society for Mushroom Science.

Herbal Medicine Basics & Simple Home Remedies | Clinical Herbalist Shannon Stone
Wednesday Sep 15, 2021
Wednesday Sep 15, 2021
Humans have used herbs medicinally for millennia. Indispensable in the toolkit of shamans, healers, and traditional medicine folk. Today, despite quick dismissal by Western medicine, well-trained herbalists get astounding results. With a little research and some basic ingredients, you can make your own remedies. To prove this, I brought on an herbalist that nomads around the country in a van.
Note: this is not intended as a substitute for medical advice. Always consult your doctor before making any lifestyle changes.
Meet our guest
Shannon is a clinical herbalist diagnosed with endometriosis at age 19. She lived in misery, following her doctor's guidelines without any relief. At age 22, they told her that the disease had progressed to the point where she would never have kids. She was also diagnosed with ADHD. Shannon began researching and used herbs, supplements, diet, and lifestyle to completely turn her life around. She got pregnant at age 27 and successfully treats her ADHD. She's living her best life and helping other women do the same.

The human body is built to move in all kinds of different ways, through many planes. Modern training, however, ignores all but front-to-back and sometimes side-to-side movement. For maximum resilience, and to thrive anywhere, add natural movements that train all planes. These are the fundamentals that help you transfer your fitness work into everyday life.
Meet our guest
Ben Reuter is a natural movement specialist with certifications from the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), and the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA). Ben has interests in injury prevention/performance enhancement for endurance athletes and uses movement to enhance quality of life. After extensive travels throughout the country, Ben realized movement is a lifestyle, not just an activity because movement is part of what makes like complete. Follow him on his two podcasts—Moving2Live and Fitness Lab Pittsburgh aka FitLabPGH.

Bodybuilders were some of the original biohackers. Experimenting with supplements, molecules, and tweaking the delicate endocrine system. Leading to well-developed and balanced physiques, but at what cost? Often mood, happiness, and paradoxically, their health and longevity. This episode draws from the best of two camps: health optimization and radical body transformation.
Meet our guest
Connie Nightingale had frequent brain fog, body fatigue, weight gain, and a general lack of motivation — and plenty of other indicators that something needed to change. In 2015, Connie dove down a nutrition rabbit hole that led to her certifications as a nutritionist and personal trainer so she could help others do the same. Knowing that the body is part of one beautifully functioning whole, Connie uniquely targets the mental, physical, and nutritional elements of healthy living from a functional standpoint. It has been said many times over that "abs start in the kitchen." While this is true, Connie knows that mental wellness, gut health, and physical energy start in the kitchen too. This is why Connie tailors individualized eating plans for her client's specific goals and desired outcomes. Her journey towards holistic health has changed her from the inside out and she is ready to help you do the same. Connie's expertise ranges from nutritional guidance, one-on-one personal training, contest and lifestyle coaching, mindset reframing, and bodybuilding competition posing. Her goal is to teach each person how to empower themselves towards future self-sufficiency by cracking their very own health code.

Unbreakable Endurance: 9 Marathons in 9 Days (Mindset & Motivation) | Matt Scarfo
Wednesday Aug 18, 2021
Wednesday Aug 18, 2021
Imagine running a marathon without much training. Then do it again every day for 9 days. The physical challenge of exercise is obvious. What happens when you push the body to its limits... and then some? Once you go beyond the one-hour grueling workout. Two hours, three hours, and beyond. You get time alone with your mind. These endurance activities test resilience. Your mind plays tricks on you. Doubting you. Begging you to stop. Long after you've "hit the wall" and "bonked", you need a light at the end of the tunnel. This episode is about the relentless mindset and motivation key to high-performance. How to dig deep when times get tough.
Meet our guest
Matt Scarfo entered the fitness industry in 1999 at age 20. He was interested in learning how the human machine was engineered - how it responded, how it adapted, and how it accommodated when exposed to stress and stimulation. Almost twenty-two years later, his curiosities led him to explore the most fundamental aspects of adaptation; adaptation to movement, exercise, diet, stress, injury, and disease. He's coached, train, and mentored over 10,000 clients and colleagues. Matt has also partnered with two of the major fitness education institutions in the United States for more than two decades. His passion lies in understanding and maximizing human performance.

Key takeaways
* "Show that you won't stop at any cost, and the Red Sea will part for you. Second guess yourself, and you won't go anywhere."
* Long, brutal workouts bring you face to face with your personal demons. They become impossible to shut out. Use this opportunity to identify areas (typically hidden) that still need work
* When to listen to pain versus when to build your tolerance to it
* When in doubt, always go back to basics

Nature’s Perfect Superfood: The Science of Spirulina & Chlorella | ENERGYbits
Wednesday Aug 11, 2021
Wednesday Aug 11, 2021
Since I discovered Spirulina and Chlorella in 2016, I've become obsessed. It's one of few products I take on a daily basis — even when traveling with just a carry-on. Each tablet contains: 40+ vitamins & minerals, 3x more protein than steak, 48x more iron than spinach, 1000x more chlorophyll than kale, brain supporting omega-3, blood boosting Nitric Oxide, antioxidants, high alkalinity, all with just 1 calorie and 0 sugar. All of this is backed by over 50 years of science and almost 100,000 studies.
Meet our guest
Catherine Arnston is the Founder And CEO Of Energybits®. She started ENERGYbits after her sister was diagnosed with breast cancer and advised by her oncologist that an alkaline diet would help her heal. Catharine immediately sprung into action to help her sister research alkaline foods and in the process she discovered algae. When Catharine learned that algae was the most alkaline, plant-based, nutrient-dense food in the world and had been used for fifty years in Asia to improve health and longevity, she knew she had discovered something big (and yes, her sister fully recovered - thanks for asking). As Catharine dug into the science of algae, she learned it had 64% protein, 40 vitamins/minerals and was endorsed by the United Nations and NASA as the most nutrient dense food in the world. She also discovered 100,000 studies documenting its long list of benefits and it was the most sustainable, eco-friendly food crop in the world. And yet algae remained virtually unknown outside of Asia. Yet algae remained virtually unknown outside of Asia. How could this be possible? Catharine knew algae could be a game-changer for our health, our children and our world if she could only convince people it wasn't weird. And so ENERGYbits was born.

EFT Tapping is a form of acupressure that stimulates the body's energetic meridian points, relaxes the body and mind within seconds, and brings it back into homeostasis.
When this happens, you can more easily break bad habits, reprogram your subconscious, and move towards your ideal life.
Meet our guest
Christine Del Negro discovered EFT, or tapping, in 2013 and became a certified EFT practitioner 2018. As a mindfulness life coach, Christine uses tapping as well as other mindfulness tools to help others release stress in their minds and bodies. When the body and mind are relaxed, it is much easier to identify underlying emotions or limiting beliefs acting as roadblocks from achieving your goals. Using tapping to neutralize emotions, makes breaking stubborn patterns easier. Then you can reprogram your belief system to best support your ideal life.
